On 11 April 2018, Settle Justice and Peace Group, heard a talk by Maggie Bruno entitled ‘There but for Fortune…’ on her work with Asylum Seekers and Refugees. She gave an overview of the asylum process, spoke about her work as a Caseworker with the British Red Cross Bradford Drop In Centre for Destitute Asylum Seekers and Refugees, and the activities of the local Bentham Area Refugee Support Group, and how she became involved with supporting refugees.

She illustrated her talk with a power point presentation and anonymised case examples she has come across. The core message was in the title ‘There but for fortune…’ and that refugees are welcome in our country.

About 25 people attended there were many questions afterwards.

Donations were subsequently sent to the British Red Cross Refugee Services in Bradford.
